Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the influence of the religious factor on the contemporary world community in the era of transformation processes of globalization. The essence of the concept «religious factor» is defined, the difference between the religious factor and the confessional factor is specified. As a result of the conducted researches, the place of religion in conflicts and processes of destabilization of modern society, as well as the relationship of religion and politics, was considered. The author argues that the term «religious factor» is widely used in the scientific literature and its value varies depending on: 1) the paradigmatic directions of the authors; 2) the goals and objectives of the investigation; 3) from the content context of the material used by the scientists. Such a multidimensionality leads to a double understanding of the religious factor’s phenomenon. Firstly, it acquires a historical and civilization significance, which is based on the realization of the religion’s paradigmatic status, and secondly – it is used in the social, political, cultural, psychological and other meanings, based on the socio-cultural interpretation of the religious phenomena’s nature. Thus it can be stated that the religious factor is a term that characterizes the influence of religion as a social institution on the formation of the social ties in a society and plays an important role in the formation of the society itself.
