Multiculturalism in the Ukrainian dimension: achievements and miscalculations

Abstract

The article discusses the factors that necessitate the concretization and updating of ethno-national and ethno-cultural policies in the context of Ukraine's international commitments, anticipated socio-political transformations. During the years of independence, Ukraine has developed its own model of ethno-political development, has brought national legislation in line with the norms of international organizations. The development of the ethno-cultural component of interethnic relations was exposed as external influences, the introduction of international standards for the protection of the interests of language and cultural groups, and internal politicization of problems, the use of cultural problems in achieving narrow-party ideological tasks. The dynamics of the language and cultural identity of Ukrainians, influence on these processes of political decisions is highlighted. Comparison with similar processes in countries that implement the policy of multiculturalism. The necessity of changes in the priorities of ethno-national and ethno-cultural policy, adoption of the Concept of ethno-national development of Ukraine is emphasized. It is shown that the success of Ukraine's transformation and the realization of its Euro-Atlantic aspirations depends on ensuring the interests of national minorities, consolidating the Ukrainian people as a civilian nation.
