Global challenges of today: role of education and knowledge in XXI

In this study was made an attempt to analyze the impact of global challenges of our time on the role of education and knowledge in twenty-first century. During study, main attention was paid to the analysis of well-known futurological works of last years, in which authors analyzed challenges facing society in the 21st century and how these challenges will affect quality of knowledge and role of education in future. Among the world's bestsellers, our attention was drawn to such famous works as: «Factology. 10 misconceptions about the world and why everything is much better than we think» by Hans Rosling, The End of Power: From Boardrooms to Battlefields and Churches to States, «Why Being in Charge Isn't What It Used To Be» by Moses Naim, «21 lesson for the 21st Century»by Yuviala Noah Harari, «Freakonomics: a rogue economist explores the hidden side of everything» by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dabner. In these works, authors advise to reconsider society`s attitude to education and knowledge in 21st century, because they will be crucial in people's lives. Emphasis is placed on the fact that in 21st century, everyone should have psychological and educational (knowledge) flexibility and mobility to get a decent work place. After all, the most important feature of all will be ability of a person to cope with changes, to learn new and to protect its mental balance in unfamiliar situations. Such anxiety is due to the fact that in 21st century, humanity will not be able to maintain its stable mental identity, work or worldviews, because of the risk to be left behind by the development of world processes. That is why humankind needs high mental flexibility and huge reserves of emotional balance to survive and thrive in such a world. That is the reason why some states are already working hard to adapt their population to these changes. In particular, they create catalogs of new professions and competencies so that new working generation can correctly and rationally develop skills for the necessary adaptation in future; preparing new teachers; establish new specialties and develop new disciplines at higher educational establishments, which require use of the latest technologies; more and more attention is paid to the study of psychological disciplines, which will complement main profession (especially this is characteristic for the educational and pedagogical field).
