The ideas of philosophers who in different social, religious and cultural contexts have tried to outline the semantic field of this concept and determine the role and place of love in human life.It is important to define the concept of love because of its multifaceted nature and multidimensionality. Love can be viewed in terms of personal feelings and social position. Love serves as a moral guideline, a force that regulates relationships between people. That is why examining the phenomenon of love in a historical way allows us to more fully reveal the meanings embodied in this concept by different societies at different stages of social development, to track the changes that were characteristic in the transition from one type of outlook to another. For antiquity, love emerges as a cosmic force that combines physical and spiritual aspects. The focus is on the reasonableness of this connection, not just passion, but loyalty and friendship. This understanding of love also influenced the cultural context, including the formation of a family institution. Marriage was only consecrated, relationships only monogamous. He was the only justification for the sin of sensual love. However, even a child born in such a marriage had the imprint of original sin. In modern times, there is a shift to rationalism and empiricism. In this context, love is seen not as a way of approaching the Absolute or God, but as a passion inherent in man.The transformation of the meaning of the concept of love took place in different historical epochs under the influence of religious, cultural, social contexts. The only thing that has always remained the same is finding love at the center of philosophy. Love has gone from the principle of the universe to the spiritual, moral core of the individual. However, to date, there is no clear definition of this concept, because it affects many layers of personal and social life. Therefore, the analysis of the definition of the role and the meaning of the concept of love in historical progress since the nineteenth century. is an open prospect for further research. ER -
